Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863, on his family's farm in Wayne County, near Dearborn, Michigan. He had shown an interest in mechanics from an early age, and when he was 13, his father gave him a watch, which he learned to take apart and reassemble. Neighbors became interested and asked him to fix their watches too. Tired of the farm, Henry left at age 16 to become an apprentice machinist in Detroit.
In 1888, Ford married Clara Ala Bryant and returned to farming to support Clara and his son, Edsel. But three years later, he was hired as an engineer at Edison Illuminating Company. In 1893, his talent got him promoted to chief engineer. While working there, he made plans to create a horseless carriage, and in 1896, he built the Ford Quadricycle. After seeing it, Edison even encouraged Ford to go create a new model.
So after a couple unsuccessful companies, Henry established the Ford Motor Company in 1903. Ford introduced the Model T and the company made huge gains. But Ford's vision was not for profit, it was for the manufacturing of an affordable car made by skilled workers making steady wages.
